School Improvement Services

The School Improvement Services (SIS) Team will provide leadership and improvement in curriculum, instruction, and assessment; data analysis and accountability; and professional development and educational leadership to improve student learning. Through coordination of the School Improvement Services Leadership team network meetings, workshops, and consultations, our program strives toward excellence in teaching and learning for all PK-12 administrators, teachers, and their students. At the CESA #4 SIS meetings, district representatives will receive DPI updates, share best practices, discuss implications of ESEA re-authorization and challenges, and finally participate in Users’ Groups that will allow districts to delve deeper into subjects that directly affect them.

Focus for the program will be driven by the needs of area districts as expressed through the Advisory team, district data, and their respective initiatives. Additionally, the SIS staff offers professional development opportunities, supports DPI trainings, provides technical assistance, and serves as a liaison with the DPI.

Level 1 - Basic Service

  • Provide leadership and direction for the implications of the ESEA re-authorization
  • Deliver three full-day and two half-day SIS meetings with the option of a professional development “Users’ Group” meeting to follow in the afternoon of the half-day meetings
  • Access to School Improvement Services (SIS) team members for technical assistance through e-mail, phone calls, and other correspondence
  • Offer a district site visit to review programs and identify district needs
  • Access to School Improvement Services resource materials
  • Serve as a liaison with the Department of Public Instruction and among districts

  • Receive all Common Core Standards Support Services detailed in Level 2A
  • Receive one day customized professional development

During each session’s module investigation, participants will explore:
    - Underpinnings, connections, and context
    - Organizational aspects
    - Specifics in the standards
    - Vertical connections
    - Action steps for local roll out
  • Member districts will have unlimited access to support materials for the Investigation workshops to better support all members in their district
  • Member districts will have unlimited participation in Common Core Standard roll out information and workshops for science and social studies if rolled out in the 2011-2012 school year
  • Member districts will have unlimited participation in Regionalized Common Core K-12 Curriculum development for math and English language arts
  • Member districts will have ONE customized professional development day focusing on Common Core State Standards and their implementation

2B. CESA #4 Comprehensive Assessment Report
CESA #4 staff will prepare and distribute one colored copy of a customized district assessment report for 2010-2011 test data. Included in the report will be district- and school-level WKCE-CRT, disaggregated, and trend analysis data based on the Wisconsin Student Assessment System.

2C. Data Analysis Retreat (One Day)
CESA #4 staff will assist a district in planning and implementing a district-customized data analysis retreat with an emphasis on student achievement. In this one-day training, district participants examine WSAS and localized assessment data. In addition, each leadership team creates a SMART goal to
improve student achievement. Included with this option are two CESA #4 trainers and a customized set of original materials. The district is responsible for printing, supplies, and food costs.

2D. Data Analysis and Planning Retreat
CESA #4 staff will assist a district in planning and implementing a district-customized data analysis and planning retreat with an emphasis on student achievement. In this two-day training, district participants examine WSAS and localized assessment data to create a SMART goal and then develop a
